This week, I wanted to touch on a topic that affects every single one of us, and that topic is confidence.

Confidence, as defined by the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary is “a feeling or belief that someone or something is good or has the ability to succeed at something.” When we look at this definition it’s easy to think, “Well, dah, I knew that,” but the question really is, are you living a confident life?

Confidence is not an easy thing to maintain, it is one of those things that take a lot of work to keep up. I myself have suffered from low self-esteem, and let me tell you it is a work in progress. To get myself feeling back up on my luck, I have had to go through a series of steps and I thought it would be nice to share them with you. Keep in mind I am by no means a professional; this is just what works for me.

Step 1: Breathe. Whenever you feel down on yourself or overwhelmed, the best thing to do, is to remove yourself from the stressful situation and breathe. If you ever find yourself having an anxiety attack or a panic attack, you need to make sure you keep breathing.

I know that sounds crazy, but hyperventilation is one of the main things that happen when you are having an anxiety attack. If in fact you are not in an anxious situation and you are just feeling down on yourself, you still need to breathe. Just think to yourself “in with the good, out with the bad,” it may not work for everyone, but for me it works.

Step 2: Outlet. Find an outlet, I am a YouTuber. Having an outlet is literally lifesaving to me. There are so many things that you can do that will help you to see you strengths and fall in love with something. Just like I do YouTube, I also do music, art, and writing (I have a lot to work out… wink, wink.). But in all seriousness, when you find something that you love, you want to be or get good at it, and the more you do it the better you will feel about it and by default the better you will feel about yourself. Not only are outlets a great way to find the things that bring out your inner passions and confidence, it is also a great stress reliever and form of self-expression.

Step 3: Believe. The next step is pretty simply said, you simply need to believe in yourself. We live in a world full of very negative people and people who are trying to tear others down. No matter what other people are saying or trying to do, you need to believe in yourself and know that you are powerful and can do anything.

Step 4: Beauty. For this next step we are going to get a little deep. You need to know that you are beautiful. No matter what anyone says or what anyone thinks, you need to know that you are beautiful the way you are. You were made the way you are and that is perfect. How boring would the world be if we all looked the same? I am serious when I say, YOU ARE BEAUTFUL!

Step 5: Own it. On that note, the last step is to own who you are. I am by far your average girl, but I love it. It took me some time to get to the point where I felt I was beautiful and to feel confident, but I got there. Today I know that I am strong, and I am confident, and you can be too. The best thing you can to is believe in yourself and know that you are perfect and beautiful the
way you are.
